School exchanges
From 1968 language exchange visits were organised by the Schools. In 2014 AKT took over this responsibility in order that youngsters could continue to stay with host families. Now a group of about 15 German pupils and their teachers visit Aber for about a week, with pupils from both Penweddig and Penglais Schools hosting them. The German group enjoy sessions in school, excursions in the locality and other delights offered by their host families.
Not all the Aber children hosting return, but those that do are very well looked after and enjoy staying with their German family and seeing the sights of both Kronberg and Frankfurt.
Music exchanges
Music exchanges between young musicians from Ceredigion, and Penglais School in particular, and the Altönigschule in Kronberg started in 1980 with pupils residing with host families in Kronberg and in the Aberystwyth district. In 2010 and 2016 large groups of musicians from Penglais travelled by bus to Kronberg staying in a nearby Youth Hostel. Concerts by these musicians were held in the Altkönigchule, churches and a Residential Home and were always very well received.
As part of the Christmas Market celebrations, AKT takes musical acts over to Kronberg.
